Edible Flowers
Edible flowers are those that can be eaten or consumed in various forms. They are often used in jellies, salads, drinks, desserts, soups and syrups. Some are used as flavoring agents too. Common edible flowers are jasmine, rose, pot marigold, chrysanthemum, daisies, sunflowers and many more.
Techniques such as drying, freezing or steeping them in oil are used to consume them.
The art of using edible flowers in cooking across different cultures dates back to 140 B.C.
When using such flowers care should be taken that they are completely pesticide free and those who are allergy prone should exercise caution. Never use flowers that are sold by a florist. They should be obtained from people who specialize in cultivating edible flowers or grow them yourself.
